South By So What Year Is It Anyway?
The Music Biz's Biggest Shmoozefest Looks Back, Not Forward

TIM LEE - Anybody remember The Windbreakers? They were an indie-pop band from Jackson, Mississippi that made some great records in the mid-Eighties through the early Nineties. Tim Lee and Bobby Sutliffe provided a Lennon/McCartney ying/yang to the group’s music. I hadn’t seen either of those guys in years although both have continued making records, so it was nice to catch up with Tim and his new band, a bunch of bright, talented kids who are probably 20 years his junior. Tim’s voice still has that pinched nasal quality that slices through his energized Southern pop/rock, and his beautiful guitar solos extended his songs with the effortless grace of Neil Young. It takes a guy Tim’s age to have the balls to solo these days, but hey, his stuff sounded GREAT. And fittingly, the band threw in an awesome cover of "Cinnamon Girl."
