TIM LEE- CONCRETE DOG- FUNDAMENTAL MUSIC- Not only am I jazzed that there’s a new Tim Lee (from The Windbreakers) cd in my house but I just caught him do both a Windbreakers set as well as a solo band set last Friday so I’ll still riding a serious high from that as well ! On this, after 2 fantastic solo records for the Paisley Pop label, he returns with his bass playing wife Susan , other guitarist Greg Horne and drummer Don Coffey Jr. and hammers home 13 more guts with the kind of smarts, muscle and determination that has draped Lee’s songwriting for years (both solo and with The Windbreakers). Basically the record starts off with the title track and never lets up with strangling 6-string workouts on tunes like “Half Life”, “Get Up, Get Up”, “Live Through Me”, “Black and White To Me”, and too many others. And it seems to me that Lee never seems to have a lack of hooks, on this and his previous records he has a bottomless well of guitar hooks that might be from the same bag that J. Mascis , Jay Farrar and Ira Kaplan have grabbed from for years. Yet another chapter in this guy’s long fabled history. ( www.fundamentalrecords.com )
