TIM LEE
Concrete Dog
(Fundamental)

Southern rocker Tim Lee follows up his stunning No Discretion with Concrete Dog, an album damn near as strong. Lee's blend of melodic roots rock and punchy power pop has grown even more seamless, while the tough, guitar-heavy sound gives Lee's melodies a chewy, tasty consistency that won't cross over into blandness. The former Windbreaker's songwriting (both alone and in collaboration with members of his stellar backing band) remains consistently good, and his dry singing fits his protagonists' rants perfectly. Check out "Half-Life," "Black & White to Me" and the heavy "Threw It All Away" for lessons in no-shit songsmithing and ass-kicking rock & roll craft. Tim Lee's been around over two decades, and he's done nothing but evolve into a higher life form along the way.
