2006 solo album from Tim Lee of The Windbreakers and, boy, when Tim Lee found his creative muse a few years back and started recording again in earnest did he find it! Both "No Discretion" and "Under The House" were very, very strong releases, but "Concrete Dog" confirms he`s running with optimum creative ease and in full power of his musical facilities. Lee`s work is a beatifically gorgeous rootsy trail of dusty backrooms, warm summer nights on the porch and distinctively Southern jangle. Lee`s deep and poetic twangy drawl blends many Neil Young-isms(think Green On Red) and his folksy-pop template is one that many Americana-ish bands would be well to pay attention to and mimic. Like all his work, "Concrete Dog" is a work of honest reflection and intensely personal while casting a net that fans of roots rock with gorgeous twang `n jangles and masterful guitar work inside every note. "Delivering 13 lucky slices of jangly power-pop/rock, Lee updates the sonic formula hes followed for the bulk of his career. While the focus is, of course, on Mr. Lee, the album has more of a comfortable, full band feel.Aided and abetted by partner Susan Bauer Lee on bass, guitarist Greg Horne, and drummer/producer extraordinaire, Don Coffey, Jr. on drums, Lee has created another musical masterpiece that ranks up there with the best works of Chris Stamey, Mitch Easter, and even Alex Chilton. Yes, its that good. So dont let the earlier mention of power-pop, a pigeonhole that has proven to be a kiss of death for many excellent bands, throw you. Concrete Dog is comparable to Dwight Twilley and The Byrds, not The Knack. The entirety of Concrete Dog has a southern feel to it that is anything but prefabricated. Lee is by no means reverberating the hackneyed wild-eyed and southern-fried clich?s here, hes just being himself, a southern gentleman. And this means that theres just a refreshing hint of twang tossed into the mix from time to time."-MetroPulse.com. Tim Lee is a winner on all counts and Fans of simply great music without easy genre-fication are going to be happy, happy campers with slicings of top-shelf music!! |
